Florida Virtual School Requirements for Homeschool Students

| Here’s a link to the law relative to homeschoolers participating in Florida Virtual School. Florida Virtual School Requirements for homeschool students
UPDATE: This information below is outdated. I’ll be taking time to find out if there is any current relevancy to homeschooled students. This was once posted on a Florida homeschool organization’s website and it is no longer available. Thanks to Terri for pointing this out. If there is any other errors on the blog, please let me know. All information is correct to my knowledge, but I do rely much on people who live in the states that I blog about. |

I’m posting this comment I received through email. The spam filter ate Terri’s comment here on the blog. Annette
From: learnerchik (Terri W.):
That’s not the link to the law. That’s a link to the state lobbyist’s website, which currently features information about high school sports issues, and doesn’t have the FLVS law information anywhere easily accessible.
The correct link to the statute about FLVS is :
http://tinyurl.com/4447h , which takes folks directly to the state statutes at Online Sunshine.
NCSW further says:
>”Florida Virtual School Requirements for homeschool students 1002.37(b)(1) Home education students eligible for FVHS”
This, alone, is correct, although incomplete, because that section lists all who eligible to use the program.
>1002.37(2)(b) FVHS shall collect records on home education students.
This is completely incorrect. 1002.36(2)(b) says nothing at all about records collection (and it’s also not FLHS – it’s FLVS). What it actually says is:
“The board of trustees shall be responsible for the Florida Virtual School’s development of a state-of-the-art technology-based education delivery system that is cost-effective, educationally sound, marketable, and capable of sustaining a self-sufficient delivery
system through the Florida Education Finance Program.”
>1002.37(h) FVHS shall forecast & actual enrollment of home education students
And there’s nothing remotely like this in the statutes – let alone even a section 1002.37(h). There are a couple of (h) paragraphs, but they don’t refer to homeschoolers at all. You’re probably distilling (and misleading) from this 1002.36(2)(f)(5)(h):
“The board of trustees shall establish and distribute to all school districts and high schools in the state *procedures* for enrollment of students in courses offered by the Florida Virtual School.”
Maybe? At either rate, most of the information about FLVS is incorrect on the NCSW blog, but since not misleading others is a high priority for NCSW, I’m sure the information will corrected soon.
