Description of the National Charter School Watch Yahoo! Group

I thought it would be good with the first post to share what it is that we do at the NCSW list.

Description
Purpose: This list is created to be a means of informing, documenting and evaluating available information concerning the impact of virtual/charter schools on the homeschooling community. The information that is being documented and cataloged in our Files, Links and Database section is compiled and contributed by list members. This information consists of and is not limited to news items, articles from various sources, legislative information (bills, law changes), documented efforts and experiences and other information that may give weight to whether home-based charter schools or virtual schools are having an impact in any negative way on homeschooling. The material on this site does not represent any group consensus, and is for reference and resource purposes only.
It is not a place to make value judgments of either those who use virtual/charter schools as a means to home educate their children or those who see homeschooling freedoms negatively impacted when public schooling is viewed as homeschooling. Members do not have to agree with any particular philosophy of homeschooling or agree to the “We Stand for Homeschooling” statement. This is an inclusive group for the benefit of providing a thorough look into the homeschooling/charter school issue nationwide. Converting charter schoolers is not the intent of this group.
Our membership consists of charter schoolers, virtual schoolers, homeschoolers and advocates of homeschooling. Those considering charter schools are also welcome. The list is moderated by a homeschooling mom.
We welcome those seeking information about charter school issues in their states and nationally, as well as those sharing information about charter schools. Objective discussion focused on the *issues* at hand and in the service of better understanding these issues, is welcome.
